Gorilla’s slaughtered <> Ice breaker <> Stopped clocks <> Perseid <> The Good Life <> Lego man <> Hail Ceasar

Sarah was in tears this morning. In the Congo, a group of poachers have shot dead four mountain gorillas. One of whom was pregnant. It seems they may have been slaughtered to warn off conservationists who want to save the region’s rainforest.  We’re speechless at such a barbaric act committed on these magnificent animals.  Question 11

Strange then that a luxury ship carrying people on a Discover the World Tour to the Artic was hit by ice after sailing dangerously close to a glazier. Fortunately no one died.  This has a feeling of the Titanic about it. Is our ship about to sink? Question 4

It’s uncanny too that we read that so many historic public clocks have fallen still.  Many are neglected so the hands of time stand idle as the world rushes along. A website called ‘Stopped Clocks’ has been set up to help people to campaign to have them repaired.  The site owner says, “The UK is the epicenter of global timekeeping but clocks are about so much more. They are part of the community, of being British. For us timeliness is very important.”  Question 4

The most impressive meteor shower for years was predicted for this weekend. The famous Perseid meteor shower promises to be the most impressive examples of the phenomenon for a decade.  The shower appears to radiate from a point in the constellation of Perseus, named after the Greek hero who slain Medusa. Question 70

According to Cancer Research UK, the good life has pushed up cancer rates by up to 43% in the past decade: smoking, drinking, lack of exercise, sun exposure and bad diet. Commenting on the report, a leading nutritionist said that, “if people lived less busy lives they would have the time to cook healthy meals!”  Question 24

A giant plastic Lego figure has washed ashore in the Netherlands, The 8ft figure has written on it NO REAL THAN YOU ARE and on the reverse if has the number 9 and the words EGO LEONARD.  Question 74

As if to celebrate Plasticman’s arrival, parts of a huge exquisitely carved statute of the Roman Emperor Hadrian have been found at a site in Turkey. His achievements include the massive wall built across the width of Northern Britain, which bears his name.  He was known as one of the five good emperors. Now, weren’t their 12 Caesar busts in the Great Hall at Blakesware? Mm! Very curious.
