In The Earth Emperor’s Eye, Ben Whittenbury regularly uses the term ‘Monkey Nuts’ to describe his neighbour, whilst Sarah twice rehearses her own playful song, ‘Who is the monkey?’ It’s curious then that a series of monkey selfies are making headlines around the world because of copyright issues.
The amazing photos were taken in Indonesia by crested black macaque monkeys when they investigated camera equipment owned by David Slater, British nature photographer. The images have appeared on websites, newspapers, magazines and television shows around the world.
However, Mr Slater is in dispute with Wikimedia after the organisation added the images to its huge collection of royalty-free shots online. Wikimedia argue that because a monkey pressed the shutter button it should own the copyright.
