The White Rhea of Warminster

A beautiful giant flightless bird has been on the loose in Warminster, Wiltshire.  Police spent three hours chasing the rhea, which escaped from its owner and ran about the town bringing traffic to halt.

The bird resembles an ostrich, which is curious given Ben and Sarah’s discussion about ostriches and likening their ‘head in the sand’ behaviour to human’s ignoring the harm being done to the planet.

It was a genuine case of deja vu as it follows a similar incident in March near Royston Cave, Hertfordshire, where a rhea was on the run for a month before being cruelly shot by a gamekeeper. A poignant reminder of the horrors of poaching.
