Lucy’s Bone

Scientists say a 3.2million year old fossil of a metatarsal bone found in Hadar, Ethiopia confirms our ancestors could consistently walk upright.

It represents a major advance in human evolution because the bone has all the hallmarks of the form and function of the modern human foot.  The initial skeleton find was in 1974 and named Lucy.  Here’s an artist’s impression.
