Icelandic Ash Plume

On 21 March we reported on the eruption of a volcano in Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland and the many curiosities with this and accounts in The Haymakers Survey.

http://watch.thehaymakerssurvey.com/2010/03/21/

Well, the volcano burst into life again yesterday. This time the eruption was 10 to 20 times more powerful than the one last month sending a huge plume of ash and dust high into the atmosphere.  What interests us is that the volcanic cloud has been blown south bringing chaos to air travel on a scale not seen since World War II. Flights have been grounded because of the risk to planes caused by glass and rock particles in the air.

An area of high pressure has pushed the cloud over Britain and the other countries mentioned in our story and Charles Lamb’s journal - Scandinavia, France and Russia - home to the Samoyed tribe. Why has this happened now during our Watch - a natural event with its source so close to the home of the Yggdrasil legend having such an impact on the Western world?  At a time when the British public is making up its mind on where to put their X in the ballot paper is this a statement from Mother Earth on environmental and ecological issues? Well on page 96 of our novel malachi warns us ‘Beware for Nature’s wrath knows no bounds’.

Whatever the interpretation the coincidences are mysterious and intriguing. Time for some A-Ha…

The Long and Winding Road

In the wake of the volcanic eruption close to the home of the Yggdrasil legend we find we have reached the 40th anniversary of the day most people assign to the break up of The Beatles.  This day in 1970 Paul McCartney publicly announced the break-up of the fab four.  A rather poignant moment of reflection during our Watch. Perhaps its a landmark precursor for a dramatic show of force from Mother Nature. In many ways Charles Lamb’s endless love for Lucy Ebbs is best captured by this song…

Yet in many ways all Mother nature really wants is for humanity to do this…

Scrabble Rule Change

The rules of the word game Scrabble are being changed for the first time in the game’s history to allow the use of proper nouns. Place names, company names or brands will now count. Mattel hope the change will encourage more younger users. Interesting since the scrabble board helped Sarah - then in her early teens - reveal the anagram magic within ‘The Haymakers Survey’.  Scrabble was invented in 1938 by the American architect Alfred Butts - which is a teasing surname in itself.

Hayemaker halts the unstoppable

Following his slaying of Goliath last November, another world success for the British heavyweight boxer Haye. The champion defended his world crown in nine rounds against the contender John Ruiz.  David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye became only the second man to stop Ruiz and only the first for 14 years. The Hayemaker’s reign has just started….

Its a powerful message given the role of Bill Richmond the boxer in our story - and the plea that environmentalists need to get tough!
